Minotti was born in Cesena, Emilia-Romagna. He started career his in 1985 with Cesena in Serie B and played in Serie A with Parma, Cagliari, Torino and Treviso. He played 201 matches and scored 19 goals, and won two Coppa Italia, one UEFA Cup and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1993, a game played at the Wembley Stadium in which he opened the scoring with a glorious volley. Minotti is one of the best players in Parma's history, and was its captain for many years.
