Catherine Doyle se crio a la orilla del océano Atlántico, en la parte occidental de Irlanda. Su pasión por la lectura empezó con los grandes mitos y leyendas irlandesas, lo que alimentó su deseo de escribir un día sus propios relatos. El Guardián de la Tormentas es su debut para el público infantil y está inspirada en la casa que su familia posee en la isla de Arranmore (donde crecieron sus abuelos) y en las aventuras de muchos de sus antepasados marineros. Después de vivir dos años en la ciudad de Dublín, actualmente Catherine reside en Galway, aunque pasa largas temporadas en Londres y Estados Unidos.
