Autorenporträt
A lover of books, Joan A. de Bruin has made up stories since she was a child. Integrating writing and art, she uses "The Hero 's Journey," Joseph Campbell's archetypal mythic structure, to carry the younger and older reader through Emma's quest. She felt this form would be the most familiar and helpful for families going through the pain, suffering and trauma of a major loss. "I feel Emma's story can potentially assist each family member to accept his or her unique grieving process, leading to acceptance of a tragic loss, in preparation for moving forward." Joan's prior books: "Yoda: the Daring, Dauntless, Darling Cat," a story about a loving cat with a learning disorder, and "Rosebud: the Cat who lost her Nine Lives," a fantasy about bullying and its possible ramifications. Both books are also available online. Joan A. de Bruin is the former Director of the L.A. Craft & Folk Art Museum, Founder of Creative Art Bridges (artbridgesgallery.com), a fiction writer, studio artist, and art educator.
