He is an American fighting for independence from the British. She is a British woman fighting for independence from him. Together they ignite a fire that will forever unite their hearts. Colonial America 1775 Dedicated sea captain Jonathon Brentwood sails the Destiny in service to the American colonies. The last thing he needs is the responsibility of two British citizens ... especially since one is a defiant young woman. But he finds Parliament might not be the only battle he must wage. Now he's at war with his desire for a woman from the country that is the enemy. Independent and fiery, Emily Wentworth refuses to accept her new fate. While she mourns her father's death, she is furious that Father has appointed a guardian for her as if she were a child. And an American at that! She intends to let this backward colonial know she will chart her own destiny. Yet she rebuffs a friend's marriage proposal that would keep her in London to sail across the ocean to a land in upheaval with a man she should hate. Neither is willing to yield to the other's wishes until unable to ignore their love, they realize their destiny is entwined. A sweeping romance set against the backdrop of war and intrigue.
