Autorenporträt
Angee wrote her first book, Snapshots Of Lisa: A Candid Look At Down Syndrome and Snippets of Lisa's Life and has now published a second book about Lisa. In Loving and Learning: Life with Lisa and Down Syndrome, Angee shares more of the same about Lisa's younger years and reveals some of the more difficult stories as Lisa finishes high school and moves on to bigger and better life experiences. Angee Barcus is a wife, mother and writer. She loves to read, and writing helps her to sort out issues that might otherwise fester and linger. Having a child with a disability was the last thing on her mind when Lisa was born. She was thinking more about all the dirty diapers and extra loads of clothes, as well as having to once again function on less hours of sleep at night, when this fourth baby arrived. When Lisa was born, Angee's thoughts were quickly flooded with "what now" notions. Angee's nursing career allowed her to work in a school system, helping young children with developmental disabilities. This gave her another viewpoint about children with disabilities, which helped her when writing about Lisa. Angee wrote for a newspaper column for almost two years and enlightened others about disability issues in and around where she lived, alternating those articles with short stories about Lisa. Angee is now working on a third book about experiences Lisa has as she moves into her own apartment, becomes a positive, self advocate role model and has to cope with heath issues that are challenging to manage.
