This work is a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirement of the Master degree in Applied Linguistics.It is a research which attempts to bring awareness of the different kinds of problems low achievers are facing with the Communicative Approach in the Tunisian E.F.L context and shed light on their motivation to learn English. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire and an interview for both students and teachers, in addition to classroom observations of a number of English language classrooms. The study revealed that the majority of low-level students are unable to cope with many principles of the Communicative Approach which affect negatively their motivation to learn English. The findings of the present study can be used to enrich and support other researches dealing with issue. They can also help in deciding on the adequate solutions to how achievers problems with the Communicative Approach in the Tunisian E.F.L context or in other E.F.L contexts.

Nedia Bellil has been teachnig English as a foreign language since 2006 in different regions in Tunisia. She is also a Phd student. Since 2006, she has been conducting researches revolving around ELT/EFL. This work is one of them. It adresses different kinds of difficulties faced by low achievers to learn English within a Communicative Apporach.
