Since last six decades, luminescent materials find application in day to day life e.g. in fluorescent lamps television, pickup receivers, light emitting diode, particle radiation detectors and medical sciences. Inorganic crystalline solid phosphors have various uses in industry. The II-VI compounds have long been known and used as efficient electro photo and cathodoluminescent materials. No other class of material displays such variety of luminescent centres capable of producing radiation ranging from IR to UV. During recent years this class of material is used in solid state and opto-electronic devices and particularly as screens in televisions radars and other display devices. Due to commercial and scientific applications these materials have been studied and investigated from the point of view of industrial and technological utility and a very little attention has also been paid to the basic electronic and optical properties of these materials. Particularly some compounds in the form of powder like ZnS, SrS,CdS, CaS, SrSe are widely studied but ZnSe has been almost neglected so far. Hence in the present study ZnSe has been taken as host material for the investigation.
