Alkaline earth aluminates especially strontium aluminates are luminescent materials known for their brightness and long persistence which makes them strong contender for the development of pressure sensors, not-destructive stress sensors, fluorescence paint etc. They are known as better host for the rare earths. The luminescence studies provide a mean to study the structure of crystal, defects and recombination mechanism. The book presents the Mechanoluminescence and Thermoluminescence studies of gamma irradiated SrAl2O4 crystals doped with rare earths like Eu and Dy. It describes the different phosphor synthesis techniques along with the combustion method which was used to synthesise the phosphors. The various structural and morphological techniques along with different optical characterization methods have been extensively discussed. The enhancement of Mechanoluminescence and Thermoluminescence with the optimum amount of rare earths and gamma dose has been discussed. It elaborates the possible application of the phosphors in various fields. I hope it will be interesting and useful for the researchers, developers and academicians working interdisciplinary.
