However the story then picks up the sole survivor, and his own miraculous survival and assistance by the Danish resistance movement, his capture by the Germans, and his arduous incarceration in Stalag VIIIB leading to his participation in the famous 'Long March' of POW's ahead of the advancing Russian red army.
