Every city has its own track record of literacy and literature, and Madiun is no exception. Literature is a means to encourage humans to think critically and creatively, therefore the community needs to be brought closer to literature. This research aims to look at the development and existence of literary communities in Madiun. It is also a form of the researcher's contribution to the development of literature learning in Madiun. The method used by researchers is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of literature studies, interviews, and observations. The results of this study are the development of literary communities in Madiun and the existence of literary communities in Madiun.The existence of a literary community in Madiun City was quite vibrant in the early 1990s. The variety of literature shows that literature and literary literacy are of interest to the community. The dynamism of the literary existence did not last long. After theuprising, literary studies and literature became very quiet. This research proves that even the great writers who lived in Madiun did not feel at home because of the lack of literary breath.

Ardi Wina Saputra is a researcher and a member of the Jamaiyah Mucoffe Madiun. Currently, he is a lecturer in Indonesian Language Education at the Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University. He is a doctoral candidate at The State University of Surabaya.
