Magnetic Core Memory Decoded is a detailed work describing the operation and development of a magnetic core memory system of the type originally implemented in the 1940's through to the 1960's. Core memory was a major stepping stone in the development of modern digital computer systems and is a fascinating technology which encompasses many engineering disciplines. A full explanation of the technology is provided from the basics of magnetic core flux responses through the design and implementation of circuits required to create a fully functional memory system. The system presented in this book is a non-trivial design and while it is relatively small in terms of its storage capacity it is still large enough to give the reader a full account of the technology and the amazing secrets of this technology. This book is a must for anyone interested in the history of computing or is simply interested in the development of engineering technology.
Autorenporträt
has spent many decades running highly successful companies which initially specialised in the development of cutting edge embedded systems for critical applications. As his companies technologies developed and spread world wide he also became instrumental in the creation of validation systems and protocols. His companies became world leading in the development of cold chain management products and applications including global mapping for the support of medical directives and standards.Following retirement he has returned to working on vintage electronic and mechanical systems of all kinds which is how his career started. He has written several books on these topics including how to build a complex microprocessor from discrete transistors and another on how to design magnetic core memory systems. He currently undertakes no charge repairs of vintage machines for collectors and enthusiasts while also creating reproduction boards and components aimed at keeping these old devices operational.
