The majority of Kurds inhabit a region that includes adjacent parts of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey known with Kurdistan. This study shows that the traditional medicine is still used by Kurdish peoples and underlines the medicinal value of a great number of plants used locally, among them, Tulipa systola Stapf. The plant is in a great economic, horticultural, aesthetical, ecological, conservational, and taxonomic interest. The present study is the first investigation on the phytochemical screening and in vitro biological activities of Tulipa systola Stapf., which grows under and between rocks in the mountains of Kurdistan region, northern Iraq. The roots popular as an herbal anti-inflammatory remedy and pain-relief while the flowers are known to be a good poultice for insect bites and rashes on the skin, as it gave quick relief with a soothing effect. Many techniques like; MPLC (middle pressure liquid chromatography), TLC (thin layer chromatography), LC (liquid chromatography) and CC (column chromatography) have been used as separating tools. compounds have been isolated from roots, leaves and flowers of Tulipa sustola with interesting biological activities.
