The monograph is basically composed of key findings of research carried out in the province of Gauteng, in South Africa in 2009. The research was carried out as part of the duties of the PEPFAR Fellowship programme in South Africa, that the author was part of. It describes the state of HIV/AIDS mainstreaming activities in selected metropolitan, district and local municipalities of Gauteng province. It examines the range of planned responses as laid down in each of the metropolitan, district and local municipal integrated development plans or IDPs, and compares these findings with interviews conducted with municipal officials (IDP Managers and HIV/AIDS coordinators). It concludes with an overall assessment of the picture of HIV/AIDS mainstreaming in Gauteng province, and points the way forward with concrete recommendations. ------------------------------------------ Key acknowledgments to the writing of the research report go to Dr Liz Thomas of the Medical Research Council (MRC) in South Africa, whose guidance and expertise to the research in general was very important.
