Nació el 24 de abril de 1970 en el estado de Cross River, Nigeria, casada con Ituen Bassey Ukem y con hijos. Tiene una licenciatura en química pura y aplicada (1991, Universidad de Calabar, Nigeria), un máster y un doctorado en ciencias del suelo (2003 y 2015, respectivamente, Universidad Ahmadu Bello de Zaria, Nigeria). Se ocupa de la fertilidad del suelo y la nutrición de las plantas en la gestión de los suelos tropicales.
