Addis Ababa University (AAU), is the biggest public University in Ethiopia. It was established in 1950 as a small college and later upgraded to the University status in 1961.Since its establishment, AAU has undergone several changes in its structure as well as in its administrative system. The system was directly affected and reflects the political system that the country was following at different times. Most of the newly established universities in Ethiopia use AAU's system as a model and a point of reference to align their settings and structures. They refer to AAU's curriculum, staff administration, rules and procedures to set up their system.Hence, conducting this study has an implication for the remaining higher education institutions in Ethiopia, though it is difficult to generalise the findings of this study.
