This book is useful for plant protection scientists by knowing peak period of shoot fly and stem borer of bajra and managing the pest accordingly. Over 100 species of insect pests have been reported to be associated with this crop. Out of these, the major pests attacking on pearl millet are shoot fly, A. approximata and stem borer, C. partellus that cause more serious damage to this crop. Experimental results showed that the infestation of both shoot fly and stem borer started in 33rd standard meteorological week (SMW) and reached to maximum (20.67%) on 37th SMW and (16.67%) on 36th SMW, respectively. The results on avoidable losses in pearl millet due to shoot fly and stem borer by using the Large Plot Technique clearly indicated that by providing protection with the effective pesticides i.e., profenophos 50 EC @ 0.05% against shoot fly and stem borer in pearl millet, grain yield can be saved to the tune of 599 kg/ha with 31.46%. For the management point of view, seed treatment of imidacloprid 600 FS @ 8.75 ml/kg followed by foliar spray of dimethoate 30 EC @ 0.03% at 35 DAG were found effective and economical for management of shoot fly and stem borer in pearl millet crop.
