The aim of the work was to develop a management plan for Parque das Torres, with the aim of restoring the degraded area so as to re-establish a dynamic environmental balance at the site, creating beautiful landscapes and comfort for the people who use the park's infrastructure, as well as providing feeding and breeding conditions for the species that settle there. To meet these objectives, environmental characterisations of the site were carried out, taking into account the climate, geomorphology and vegetation. Delimitations were made of the flooded areas, the different types of vegetation, the ecological corridors and the park's buffer zone. The fauna was surveyed, including birds, mammals and ichthyofauna. A survey of the environmental impacts of the site and its surroundings was also carried out. A plan was drawn up to prepare the area to receive the native plant species. To do this, it was necessary to list the methods for controlling exotic vegetation, leaf-cutting ants andtermites, and also to estimate the costs of isolating the area and carrying out environmental education programmes with local residents.
