The number one reason given by teachers leaving the profession is that they need better training and support at the beginning of their career to deal with the challenges of the classroom. Adult learning theory offers a great chance to improve the professional learning of teachers and provide them with the support needed at the beginning of their career. The success for new teachers is too frequently left to chance, thereby resulting in teachers leaving the profession. The ability to "grow" teachers in the way that best fits the needs of the district offers the opportunity to proactively build the capacity of new teachers and retain them for the future.
