Mannich bases are beta-amino ketone-carrying compounds that are the end products of the Mannich reaction. The Mannich reaction is a carbon-carbon bond-forming nucleophilic addition reaction that is used in the synthesis of many natural products, pharmaceuticals, and other substances. There are several aminoalkyl chain bearing Mannich bases with high curative value, such as fluoxetine, atropine, ethacrynic acid, trihexyphenidyl, and many others. The literature reveals that Mannich bases are highly reactive and have been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antifilarial, antibacterial, antifungal, anticonvulsant, anthelmintic, antitubercular, analgesic, anti-HIV, antimalarial, antipsychotic, antiviral activities, anti-lipase activity, and so on properties. Thus, this book will be useful for understanding the various aspects of Mannich bases and it will be helpful for designing novel Mannich base derivatives in the future.
