Maria Merian (1647-1717) was a naturalist and scientific illustrator who studied and recorded many tropical insects. While her contributions have been overlooked in recent history, she is now considered one of the most significant scientists in the field of entomology. The Royal Collection Trust oversees The Royal Collection of the British Royal family, the largest private art collection in the world. Owned by Her Majesty Elizabeth II, the collection is spread among 13 occupied and historic royal residences in the United Kingdom.
