Global production of seafood from aquaculture has grown substantially in the past decade, reaching 65 million metric tons valued at more than US$ 78 billion annually. Aquaculture continues to be the fastest growing animal food producing sector and currently accounts for nearly half (49.6%) of the world s food fish consumption. As capture fishery industries have exceeded sustainable levels, it is expected that aquaculture will play a major role in meeting the seafood demand of a growing world population. The use of formulated feeds for increasing intensification of aquaculture systems has been a rapidly developing industry and now it is estimated that the global market for formulated aquafeed is about 22.7 million tons. There is an urgent need within the global aquafeed industry in order to find suitable alternate feed ingredients. This book deals with the development of nutritionally balanced and cost-effective aquafeeds for fish in terms of its palatability and energy provision. The book contains 8 substantive chapters covering significant research investigations on the effectiveness of different artificial feeds with different protein and oil additives for marine fish juveniles.
