Marine mycology was established as a discrete science in late 1930's following the work of researchers like, Sparrow (1937), Barghoorn & Linder (1944) and Hohnk (1952). The marine fungi are major decomposers of woody and herbaceous substrata entering marine ecosystem. Their importance lies in their ability to degrade lignocelluloses in environment. In this book the author have provided an exhaustive account of the description of 72 species of marine fungi belonging to 43 genera on 18 mangrove species. All the species and genera are arranged according to classification of Hawksworth at al., 1995 with related synonyms and special emphasis given to keys to the species for easy identification. This book Marine fungi of Mahanadi delta, India will be an important contribution to taxonomy of fungi. It will serve as a guide to experts as well as new researchers for study of marine fungi and their identification. The detailed laboratory methods along with species distribution in Mahanadi delta and Indian distribution of species is also provided. The morphological details of fungal species, coupled with photomicrographs and camera lucida diagramsare a special feature of this book.
