Throughout his basketball career, Mario Chalmers has achieved a tremendous level of success. As a high school phenom in Alaska, Chalmers was named one of the Top 12 players in the nation, which led him to a scholarship at the University of Kansas. At KU, Chalmers was a key member of the Jayhawks 2008 NCAA National Championship team, and in the title game, hit two now-legendary three-point shots. Chalmers then moved on to the NBA, where he has played nine seasons, and won back-to- back titles with the Miami Heat. In "The ABC's of Basketball," Mario Chalmers now showcases his skills as an author. This highly acclaimed children's book was originally conceived by Chalmers when he was in middle school, and dreamed of one day reaching the pinnacles of the sport. It now serves as the foundation for his success, and will inspire young readers""regardless of their skill level on the court""to always believe in themselves, maintain a positive attitude, and work hard to achieve the loftiest of goals. Fast paced, informative, and with a consistently positive message, "The ABC's of Basketball" is told through the voice of young "Rio" Chalmers, who knew that nothing in his life was out of reach. And he writes in these pages, "Dream big, think big, play big!" It's a message that will inspire kids as well as adults.
Autorenporträt
Mario Chalmers acquired his love for basketball at age 3 thanks to a Nerf basketball and hoop, and brought home his first championship trophy from the local YMCA league at age 12. In high school he was named a McDonalds All-American. At the University of Kansas, "Rio" earned a starting position during his freshman year, and helped lead the Jayhawks to the Big 12 Conference title. Two seasons later, he was a key member of KU's National Championship team, and famously hit a 3-point shot with 2.1 seconds left in regulation of the title game, which has come to be known as "The Miracle Shot." Mario's success has continued throughout his NBA career, as he won back-to-back championships with the Miami Heat. Off the court, Mario is the founder of the Mario V. Chalmers Foundation, which supports the positive development of youth through sports and education, and also the funding breast cancer research and treatment initiatives.
