This book is about the security of our global system of maritime trade with a sharp focus on Asia-Pacific and offering the global maritime community an Asian point of view. It discusses maritime security from its myriad perspectives, for instance; how we should think about it, how we could measure it.Though this work is neither the first nor the last collaborative effort on this subject, we believe that existing discussions about maritime security are almost always tactical, myopic and fragmented. Hence this book strives to overcome such defects which it does by answering the three 'how's' above from a systemic perspective, rather than from a singular ground-level one. In that way, this work is about examining the ways in which we can all work together to build a more secure, more resilient global system of maritime trade. By taking a systemic view, we believe that stakeholders in maritime security will start to think about their task in a unique way and that new, innovative and efficient operational responses will soon become the norm. , and how we can better secure it.
