After standing as the Conservative candidate for Glasgow Govan in 2001 and Selby in 2005, Menzies was added to David Camerons "A-List" in 2006 and was selected for Fylde in November 2008 and elected at the 2010 general election, when he gained 22,826 votes, 52.2% of the total.
