Low-cost business model in air-transportation field has swiftly spread around the Globe, and created new markets and target groups. It proved to be highly competitive in relation to traditional air-carriers, by providing better prices and ability to travel more frequently. However, in many countries, such as Russia, such kind of companies is not yet on the market. The aim of this work is to evaluate current situation on the air-transportation market in North-west region of Russia and to analyze the future of Lappeenranta Airport on it. Even though many Russians in the region are eager to find the cheapest prices for traveling, they are not ridiculous. It's up to further research, how much additional costs, such as transfer to the airport, parking, time spent traveling, psychological and other factors will affect the final decision. Will there be enough people willing to overcome these difficulties just to save money? In the end, why low-cost airlines are not so widely present at the Russian market? What keeps them from entering? Moreover, what is the best way to promote the airport on the Russian market?
