The present investigation was undertaken to examine the production cost, marketing channels, marketing costs, seasonal fluctuations in arrivals and prices in selected markets and export of jaggery from Maharashtra. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. The primary data pertaining to the agricultural year 2005-06 were collected from 30 jaggery processing units each from Karveer, Phaltan and Daund tahsils of Kolhapur, Satara and Pune districts, respectively. The factors influencing the net price received by the jaggery producers were assessed with the help of multiple regression analysis. The simple linear equation and simple average methods were used to study the trends and seasonal indices in arrivals and prices of jaggery in the selected markets. Study point out that India has enormous potential for production and exports of jaggery, but export markets for jaggery are not stable. Therefore study suggest the proper steps to popularize the jaggery and jaggery based products in the international market by branding the product and increasing the awareness of various uses of jaggery and its benefits to the potential consumers.
