Gloria was the third child of Mr. Charles and Mrs. Patience Le-Grand Hamilton of 28 Percival Street, Freetown Sierra Leone. After a happy childhood, she travelled to the United Kingdom to complete her tertiary studies. She settled in England on marrying Fg. Off. Winston Forde RAF in 1966 whom she had known from the age of 11. They have four grown-up children, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Following the celebration of her 80th birthday, she has written her memoir primarily to inform her descendants. It portrays the 1950s lifestyle in Sierra Leone and the experiences of Commonwealth students in Britain in the 1960s that should also inform a wider readership. She joins her husband and granddaughter as a published author with much pride. A Review by Dr Madlene Hamilton PhD Maroon Town Girl is the ultimate love story and gift to country, heritage, education, family, and culture. It's an ode to the bourgeoisie, a reflection of self, and a true pleasure to read. It's the only piece I've read related to Sierra Leone that is not centred on poverty, violence, war, or disease, except when those elements are intercepted with the main plot. Congratulations on this remarkable accomplishment.
