Maryville was incorporated as a city on July 11, 1795, by a single territorial legislative act that also created Blount County. The images, many of them previously unpublished, were provided by local individuals, Maryville city government and schools, Maryville College, the Blount County Public Library, and the Daily Times newspaper.

Linda Braden Albert is a section editor and columnist with the Daily Times in Maryville and a past recipient of the East Tennessee Historical Society's History in the Media award. David R. Duggan, a circuit judge and former Alcoa city attorney, is the Alcoa city historian, president of the Blount County Historical Museum, and past president of the Blount County Historic Trust.
