There are a number of definitions that need to be explored in order to understand what we have to deal with. Manipulation of mass consciousness is a knot in which the most important problems of influence psychology are woven together: the transformation of information, the presence of power struggles, the problems of truth-falsehood and the secret-objective, the dynamics of shifting responsibility, changing the balance of interests and others. The second definition is a synthesis of the insights of the prominent Russian researcher S.G. Kara-Murza. In his view, manipulation is the oppression of the individual, whereby, as one wishes to believe what one wants to acquire (knowledge, experience, material goods, psychological comfort), the oppression can be achieved through 'lies that one wants to believe'.
