Ruth Symons (Author) Ruth Symons is the author of several children's books, including A Year in the Wild, Christmas Lights, the Paper World series and the Sophie la girafe board books. When she's not writing and editing, Ruth loves gardening, hiking and hosting elaborate teddy bear tea parties with her young daughter. Susie Hammer (Illustrator) Susie Hammer is an illustrator and children's book author. Originally from Warsaw, Poland, she has spent the last 10 years in Madrid, Spain, where she studied illustration. Susie uses simple shapes and vivid colours to create a playful and naive world. Her work. aimed at a young audience, can be found in paper, textiles, wall art and toys. Susie combines her job as a children's illustrator with her work with children, previously teaching in a Montessori school and conducting workshops for the Madrid IED (Instituto Europeo de Diseño). Recently, she started teaching art classes at nursery schools. In 2018, she created 'Campos de Juego' (Playgrounds) project, where she designed a space for exploration and play at the Contemporary Arts Centre in Murcia (Centro Párraga). In 2019, together with a group of artists from Barcelona, she worked on the non-profit project, 'No Planet No Fun', dedicated to the environment and climate change.
