In the process of producing this grade 4 and 5 workbooks, I noticed that integers operations and algebraic equation have been taught to grade 4 students in China. It is debatable if algebra should be taught so early especially in North America when so many students are struggling with basic computations at grade 4, but since this workbook is also aiming to sell in China and Asian countries, so we bring this to meet to the highest international standard. The students using this workbook could be trained to participate the international math contests, not just a local or any national math contest. Teachers or parents could decide if they want to teach algebra as an option, it is up to you. How were the Chinese classic model problems written? 中国古算题是如何㝍的?Chinese classic word problems are classified according to their models. Around the 4th century, Chinese (孙子算经) was fascinated by the discoveries of various linear models, but these models were not documented from the modern algebra's viewpoint. Today, we learn to appreciate why those class model problems were passed on from generations to generations and even were taught in some of the Chinese math textbooks. These classic model problems present opportunities for students to do the enriched math and learn difficult techniques on how to solve advanced word problems. They provide an opportunity to separate the wheat from the chaff.
