Pupils' and teachers' ability to use new technologies and to master foreign languages are one of the aims of current education. The presented research deals with solving mathematical word problems in the CLIL environment and the research objectives are classified into three different research levels. The first objective is to identify if the CLIL method influences academic performance of pupils when solving mathematical word problems. The second objective is to identify strategies used by pupils when solving mathematical word problems and to describe them. The last objective is to identify foreign language learning strategies of the pupils participating in the research. Based on these research objectives, we formulated research questions and corresponding hypotheses. The research is qualitative and quantitative in nature. Didactic tests, analyses of solution strategies, case studies and questionnaires were the main tools used in the presented research.
