Buffalo is an important livestock resource for providing milk, meat and draught power. Assisted reproductive technologies are used in propagation of superior germplasm in buffaloes. There are number ways to improve the reproductive efficiency, one such is to use of matrix metalloproteinases in early pregnancy diagnosis and heat detection. MMPs family members are involved in different reproductive processes in regulated manner. Their concentrations and activity are regulated by reproductive hormones, growth factors and cytokines which involve in different reproductive events. They modulate the structure and function of reproductive organs. Serum biochemical profiles and MMPs are varied with different stages of reproduction and are correlated. Specific matrix metalloproteinases are expressed in pregnant and heat buffaloes. Therefore, identification and standardization of the specific proteinases are very useful to detect the pregnant or heat stage in early stage and correct time to improve the reproductive efficiency of the buffaloes. This book will be very helpful to the scientists working in the buffalo reproduction, artificial breeding centres & buffalo breeders & farmers.
