How do you "teach" perseverance to a child? Discover a charming and inviting way to show children the importance and power of perseverance and resilency. During twins Max and Mollie's first trip to the beach they discover a world of wildlife and fish they have only read about in books. Not only does their Granddad teach them about the many ecosystems of an ocean, but they find many beautiful treasures brought in by the ocean's waves. Are their discoveries priceless diamonds and rubies? Old pirate treasure? Or toss away trash? Be a part of Max and Mollie's encounter with Lily, the magical old woman whose special powers and insight teach a valuable life lesson. Her antics and stories help the twins learn about the power and magic that lies hidden in the sea's tossed and tumbled glass--and how it can impact their lives as children and even throughout adulthood. How can Lily's message be more valuable than any lost treasure of gold and gemstones? By illustrating the importance and power of patience, perseverance, "stick-to-it-ive-ness", and resilience. Includes discussion questions and encourages children to stay strong, be brave, and do the right thing.
Autorenporträt
Children's book author Ardis Glace believes that bios for people who have worked more than 50 years take too much time to read. However, readers will see the following influences in her books. ¿ Metaphors and Symbolism. As a child she attended a church program where she first discovered metaphors and symbolism. The leader told the children that the band on his left hand was actually just a solid metal circle. Its importance was that it was a symbol of his marriage. ("This was very deep for a 4-year-old.") ¿ Being a Good Example. It is a responsibility that each adult carries. ("Children remember everything. From the stop sign one rolls through to the words yelled at an umpire to the kindness one shows to others.") ¿ Boundaries, Direction, and Teachable Moments. Kids respond to all three. ("These come from her years as a family counselor, as a Juvenile Probation Officer, and when she later became a parent!") ¿ Fun and humor. The Max and Mollie books started many years ago when Ardis began traveling regularly to Mexico. She has been fortunate to develop a very special and important relationship with a poor (yet wise) woman named Lilia. Ardis channeled her love for Lilia, sea glass, and her two children into the first book of the Max and Mollie series: Max, Mollie and the Magic of Sea Glass. It has since been expanded into a chapter book for children ages 6 - 10, titled Max and Mollie Discover the Magic of Sea Glass.
