In Max and the Lowrider Car, author Tonton Jim has created a story to be enjoyed by kids and grownups also, especially reading together. The humor ranges from tongue-in-cheek wordplay to fairly hilarious silliness. Charming and colorful pencil-and-watercolor illustrations by E. Felix Lyon help bring Jim's memorable characters to life. In the town of Hound's Glenn, the inhabitants are dogs and wolves. The kids can be kids, the teenagers are ... well, you know ... and the grownups act ... grown up. It's a good place. You'll like it. Max lives there. Max has an especially creative mind for a wolf cub in the fifth grade. Even so, when his teacher gives him an assignment to find something AMAZING to write about in their small town, Max is pretty sure that's impossible. Then he discovers Mr. L. Lobo's auto body shop and his AMAZING customized car, Numero Uno, and life changes for Max, his friends, his big brother, and nearly everyone else in the town. Seeking more cars to customize, a small mixed band of adventurers (wolves and hounds, pups and grownups) takes a road trip, complete with campfire monster stories, motorcycle-riding wild boars, and an invasion by a townful of very perturbed birds. But don't worry - in the end Max dreams up a way to fix everything. Whether or not lowriders are your thing, this heartwarming seven-chapter book will bring you a smile, keep you turning the pages, and leave you looking forward to more Hound's Glenn adventures in the future.
Autorenporträt
Tonton Jim was born in Corinto, Nicaragua. When he was three years old, he moved to Santa Barbara, California, where his paternal grandparents lived. After a childhood enriched with books, comics, and animated cartoons, he attended San Diego State University, where he earned a degree in Finance. He worked awhile in the reconciliation department of a brokerage service, then left the corporate world and taught elementary school for several years in Oakland, California, mostly fourth grade. He now lives near Santa Barbara again - fortunately, in a house with a portal to Hound's Glenn.
