Prof. Dimitrios Hountalas was born in 1961 in Greece. He finished his elementary studies at Chicago Illinois USA and Greece. He received his Diploma in Mechanical Engng from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1985 and his PhD degree in 1989. In 1991 he became Lecturer at NTUA and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1995. In 2001 he became Professor Associate and in 2007 Professor for Internal combustion engines. His field of specialization is Internal Combustion Engines and specifically: Diesel Engine Modelling, Diagnostics & Condition Monitoring, Diesel Engine Emission Reduction Techniques, Diesel Engine Performance and Emission Measurement, Exhaust Heat Recovery from Diesel Engines, Dual Fuel Combustion and Alternative Fuels. Prof. Hountalas has participated in a number of projects funded by the EU and the private sector focusing on diesel engine performance and emissions. Most of the work has been conducted with major engine manufacturers. Prof. Hountalas has developed an advanced simulation code for both diesel engine performance and emission prediction that has been used and evaluated by engine makers worldwide. Moreover he has over 25 years field experience having cooperated with major companies in Greece and abroad (power generation, marine sector, engine manufacturers). During this period he has also conducted numerous on-board applications on vessels during sea trials in cooperation with major shipping companies and recognized ship yards (Hyundai Korea, DSME Korea, SWS China). His research work has been published in over 200 publications and he has developed a prototype diagnostic technique for diesel engines which has been included as reference technology in the: "Diesel Engine Reference Book". Prof. Hountalas has developed in co-operation with a German Based Company a Reference Technique for On-Board NOx emission verification which has received an Official GL Marpol Type Approval in 2012. In 1989 Prof. Hountalas received the "ASME-E.F. Obert Outstanding Paper Award" and in 2004 and 2010 the "SAE Award" for Presentations at the World Congress in Detroit. Dr. Efthimios Pariotis was born in 1972 in Greece. He received his Diploma in Mechanical Engng from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1995 and his PhD degree in 2005. From 2005 until 2009 he has been a research associate at the Internal Combustion Engines Laboratory (ICEL) of NTUA. From 2005 to 2008 he has been an adjunct lecturer at the Hellenic Army Academy, being responsible for teaching "Internal Combustion Engines". Since 2009 he is lecturer at the Hellenic Naval Academy, responsible for teaching the courses of "Heat Transfer", "Marine Auxiliary Systems and Pipe Networks" and "Thermodynamics". His field of expertise is Internal Combustion Engines with emphasis in: Development of Diesel Engine Simulation Models for engine Performance and Emissions, Diesel Engine Emission Reduction Techniques, Exhaus t Heat Recovery from diesel engines and Heat Transfer in Internal Combustion Engines. Dr. Pariotis has participated in a number of projects funded by the European Union and the private sector in cooperation with the ICEL of NTUA, focusing on diesel engine performance and emissions. Most of these projects have been conducted in cooperation with major international engine manufacturers. His research work has been published in 25 publications at International Journals and Conferences.
