Ansel C. Ugural, Ph.D., is a visiting professor of mechanical engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, New Jersey. He was a National Science Foundation fellow and has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Ugural held positions at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he served for two decades as a professor and chairman of the mechanical engineering department. He has considerable and diverse industrial experience in both full-time and consulting capacities as a design, development, and research engineer. Dr. Ugural earned his M.S. in mechanical engineering and Ph.D. in engineering mechanics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Engineering Education. He is also listed in Who's Who in Engineering. Professor Ugural is the author of several books, including Mechanical Design: An Integrated Approach (McGraw-Hill, 2004); Mechanical Design of Machine Components (CRC Press, 2nd ed., 2015); Stresses in Plates and Shells (McGraw-Hill, 1999); Plates and Shells: Theory and Analysis (CRC Press, 4th ed., 2016); Mechanics of Materials (McGraw-Hill, 1990); and Mechanics of Materials (Wiley, 2008). Some of these books have been translated into Korean, Chinese, and Portuguese. Dr. Ugural is also the coauthor (with S.K. Fenster) of Advanced Mechanics of Materials and Applied Elasticity (Pearson, 6th ed., 2020). In addition, he has published numerous articles in trade and professional journals.
