Research into bonding agents for attachment of resins to tooth structure was started in early 1950's. The first attempt to develop on adhesive system for bonding acrylic resins to tooth structure was made by Hagger, a Swiss chemist working for the Amalgamated Dental Company in London and Zurich in 1949.
