A lightning discharge produces thunder and emits electromagnetic radiation ranging from ELF to visible region and above. This book provides a brief history and introduction of lightning has been presented in chapter 1. The description of the myth and realities of lightning thundercloud and its electrification, types of lightning discharge, energy of a lightning stroke and radio atmospherics are studied in this chapter. Chapter 2 deals with the details of different stages in a lightning discharge. Origins of various electromagnetic radiation generated in lightning has been subjected. Observed spectrum and origin of radio spectrum of lightning have been presented in chapter 3. In chapter 4, we present the model of positive corona streamers. Chapter 5 has been dedicated to the study of radiation stepped leader and dart leader in high frequency range. Chapter 6 deals with the magnitude of electromagnetic radiation in higher frequency range during return stroke. Radiation from lightning in this portion of spectrum is important both for scientific investigations of lightning and for engineering assessments of the interference environment during thunderstorms.
