Being a preceptor means transmitting knowledge and taking responsibility for professional training. Discussions of clinical and surgical cases were the most frequently mentioned activities. Preceptorship is fundamental to the teaching-learning process and has contributed to the preceptor continuing to learn. Facilities included good multi-professional relationships, student interest and good theoretical training; difficulties included lack of infrastructure and time, poor communication between teachers and preceptors, and lack of training. The conclusion was that preceptorship contributed to the training of future professionals and that they faced many difficulties in exercisingthis role, suggesting improvements in infrastructure, working conditions and training. This book is aimed at students, preceptors, teachers, managers of higher education institutions and health services.
