Sappan tree and ginger plant are two such plants which have been known for their antioxidative, hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic effects. Since antioxidants of dietary origin may not be adequate to promote health benefits, inclusion of these substances in drinking water may be of high significance. The present study was taken with this intention to evaluate the biological properties of sappan wood and a mixture of sappan wood and dried ginger in drinking water. The study showed that a decoction of sappan wood as well the combination of sappan wood and dried ginger had hypoglycemic, lipid lowering and antioxidant effect. Hence it promotes cardiovascular health.
