MEGACITY ØRESUND "THE RESILIENT CROSS-BORDER EUROPEAN CITY" brings into discussion the relation between the governance of regional development and the territorial impact of the large European transport networks. The thesis debates on the need for a new physical connection between Denmark and Sweden over the Øresund Strait, thus completing the regional infrastructural loop together with the Øresund Bridge. The debate is centered around the resilience characteristics of the cities bordering the Strait and on the added value of the physical link between these two countries: to what extent the Øresund urban system can respond to the impact of a new major transport link, of an European magnitude? For a comprehensive picture, this paper discusses the functional and spatial structure of this region, arguing for a new model of the cross-border city in a borderless European Union territory: the Elsingborg City.
