Megan Connors is a self-centered eighteen-year-old. Her mother's alcoholism and depression are making Megan feel like the mother instead of the daughter. After an embarrassing confrontation with her mother, Megan runs away-right into the path of an oncoming bus. In the operating room following the accident, Megan's heart stops for more than ten minutes. During this time, she is swept away to a futuristic world by an angel named Eon. Megan's journey begins in New Evergreen, Colorado, a healthy community claiming to be free from the disease. The key to a breakthrough is a doctor named Jackie who has mysteriously remained protected from the deadly outbreak. The townspeople in New Evergreen want to move Dr. Jackie to a more protected area because of her immunity to the Bleeds. Despite their efforts, a higher power has orchestrated a meeting between the madman, his slave army, the military, and Jackie-from whence a monumental miracle will take place. In the end, only one question remains: what is Megan's role in this apocalyptic drama of the future?
