Peter Rosegger wird am 31.7.1843 in Alpl/Steiermark geboren. Von Kindesbeinen an hilft er am elterlichen Hof mit. Für die anstrengende Arbeit am Bauernhof körperlich zu schwach, beginnt Rosegger mit 16 Jahren eine Lehre bei einem Schneider. Zwischendurch versucht er sich immer wieder als Autor und sendet Erzählungen an die Grazer "Tagespost". Insbesondere der Grazer Redakteur Adalbert Svoboda macht als erster nachhaltig auf die dichterische Begabung Roseggers aufmerksam. Nach dem missglückten Versuch einer Buchhändlerlehre in Laibach, besucht er bis 1869 die Grazer Handelsakademie und veröffentlicht schließlich sein erstes Buch "Zither und Hackbrett". 1876 gründet er die Monatszeitschrift "Heimgarten". Er widmet sich unermüdlich dem Schreiben. Sein Lebenswerk umfasst insgesamt 43 Bände. Soziale Projekte nehmen einen wichtigen Teil seines Lebens ein. Er finanziert Schulen und Kirchen, vor allem in seiner Heimat, in Alpl. 1918 stirbt Peter Rosegger in seinem Haus in Krieglach.
