Skin is a well-recognized route of drug administration. Several drugs have been successfully delivered through topical route for both local and systemic action. The Skin has large surface area, so the drug molecules can easily transported through it. The topical route has been more appropriate choice for the treatment of various ailments via dermatological disease, muscle pain and inflammation. The main purpose of prepared formulation is to treat sun burns caused by UV-B radiation, mainly in hilly areas. The current marketed formulations are effective for a period of 3-4hr but prepared formulation of melatonin will have a longer duration of action ( 3-4hr) with better efficacy in acute and sub-acute cases. Prepared formulation is more effective because it contained higher amount of zinc oxide which act as a physical filter/barrier. Antioxidants like seabukthum oil, carrot seed oil, alpha tocopherol etc. will be used in a specific concentration within the regulatory limits in the formulation to provide a synergistic effect. There are no marketed products available in India with this concept which are using long term efficacy particularly in high altitude areas.
