The main purpose of prepared formulation is to treat sun burns caused by UV-B radiation, mainly in hilly areas. The current marketed formulations are effective for a period of 3-4hr but prepared formulation of melatonin will have a longer duration of action ( 3-4hr) with better efficacy in acute and sub-acute cases. Prepared formulation is more effective because it contained higher amount of zinc oxide which act as a physical filter/barrier. Antioxidants like seabukthum oil, carrot seed oil, alpha tocopherol etc. will be used in a specific concentration within the regulatory limits in the formulation to provide a synergistic effect. There are no marketed products available in India with this concept which are using long term efficacy particularly in high altitude areas.
