Past president of the McAllen Boys & Girls Club; of the American Heart Association (2 years) and of the Upper Valley Humane Society (2 years). Member of the Board of Governors of McAllen Medical Hospital in McAllen for 14 years. First woman member of the McAllen Noon Lions Club, and President of the Board. Was Lion of the Year in l993. District director of Project Youth Exchange for Lions Clubs of America. Member of the Board, Los Caminos Del Rio. Advisory Board to the Texas Attorney General for 14 years. Member of the Fireman's Pension Fund Board for 14 years. Elected as McAllen's first woman City Commissioner in l987, running unopposed. Reelected in l99l, again, unopposed. In 1995 ran, once again, with one opposing candidate, but won easily. Became Mayor Pro-Tem in 1997and remained Mayor Pro-Tem until retirement from Elected Office in February 2001.
