This paper is devoted to one of the topical problems of educational psychology - overcoming mental deprivation in students. The paper reveals the concept of "mental deprivation of students", analyzes the distinctive features of manifestation and overcoming mental deprivation in first-year students graduating from urban and rural schools. The author's psychodiagnostic verbal technique to study the adaptation of students in high school is presented. Theoretically and empirically substantiated the program of psychological support of students in overcoming mental deprivation in the cultural and educational environment of the university.
