The transition to university life is a time when young people face new experiences, including interpersonal, social and academic demands. Hence the importance of research on mental health and quality of life in health in first year university students, because these variables can definitely influence both academic performance and the permanence of the years that are inferred to last the career. The objective of this research was to establish a relationship between mental health and quality of life in health of first year students, corresponding to a descriptive/correlational study, with quantitative methodology. The sample consisted of 110 first-year students. Standardized MINI 5.0 tests were used to assess mental health and WHOQOL-BREF for quality of life in health, both validated in Chile. The research was carried out in a public university, whose mission is to offer tertiary education to young people, most of whom belong to the most vulnerable sector of the country.
