One of the areas which are of great importance for applied linguists is discourse analysis, analyzing the use of language in different contexts. According to Halliday (1994), the aim of Functional Grammar has been to construct a grammar for the purpose of text analysis. This book is a comparative study of Textual and Ideational Metafunctions in Applied Linguistics research articles written by native and non native speakers of English.The findings of this study may enlighten students suggesting that learning metafunctions of language and applying them in an effective way, they can reach to higher levels of proficiency in language and language studies. In designing syllabus, teachers can benefit from the implications of Functional Grammar. The writers and researchers could benefit from the textual and ideational metafunctions to produce more cohesive and coherent pieces of writing, to convey their message and to report their studies in an effective manner.
